Shelby Hazel BS, RDN
Registered Dietitian
Portland / Vancouver
Shelby is a Registered Dietitian, graduating from Oregon State University in 2020 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nutrition. She knew early in her education that the diet culture approach to food did not fit her philosophy at all. She wanted to challenge the archaic rules of nutrition that are often steeped in problematic ideologies. During her Dietetic Internship, she worked in private practice alongside an eating disorder specialist, and she found where dietetics and her ideals aligned.
While Shelby is a newer dietitian, she has volunteered with the National Eating Disorder Association on their helpline and helped organize Salem’s first NEDA Walk. She believes health and happiness look different for everyone and that health is not a moral obligation. She also knows that there are many influences that go into what we eat; cultural, societal, physical, and even trauma can affect our relationship with food. Her biggest goal with her clients is to act as a resource to help them discover their own strengths and offer guidance and support in their journey. Combining the principles of Intuitive Eating and HAES, Shelby hopes to create an environment for her clients where all foods fit, numbers do not determine worth, and recovery is possible.
In her free time, Shelby enjoys collaging, playing Breath of the Wild, and browsing thrift stores for things she really doesn’t need.
