Marina Kapes, BA
Student Intern Vancouver
Marina is a student therapist intern completing her Master of Arts in professional mental health counseling and certificate in eating disorder treatment at Lewis & Clark Graduate School. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Eastern University with minors in sociology and gender studies, and has completed additional graduate coursework through Widener University’s Center for Human Sexuality Studies. Marina is passionate about working with clients navigating eating and body image concerns, issues with sexuality, and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Paramount in Marina’s framework for working with clients is the belief that we are all “fellow travelers” facing a challenging world, and her goal as a counselor is to hold space for an individual’s whole self to be present, validated, and authentically seen. She aims to bring a sense of humor and compassion into sessions, utilizing techniques from cognitive-behavioral therapies (CBT), psychodynamic theory, and the Health at Every Size (HAES) model.
Home for Marina is on the east coast, where she lived in the Philly area prior to moving west for graduate school in Portland. In her free time, Marina loves reading, listening to podcasts, learning how to make ceramics, cuddling up with her pets, and the occasional hike.
